How to Create an Online Pawn Shop

Purchase a domain name for your online pawn shop. A domain name identifies your website and is the address people type into their web browser to reach your website. Choose a name that is easy to remember and spell. Online domain registrars typically charge from $2 to $14 per year or more as of 2010.
Purchase web hosting for your website. Because your online pawn shop should have a lot of images, you may have to pay more for your web hosting services. Web hosts are responsible for maintaining the servers that handle your content and the traffic to your website. Web hosts typically charge from $3 to over $100 per month as of 2010. TheSiteWizard website offers hints on how to select the appropriate web hosting service.
Determine the structure of your online pawn shop. One option is a system in which customers mail a product to you so you can sell the product online. You also may set up an escrow account from which funds are released to the customer only after the product is received. Avoid a system in which you may have to mail products back to your customers; that is costly.
Determine the appearance of your website. Sketch a design for your proposed website. Use word-processing software to write the welcome message, frequently asked questions and other content for your website. Ensure there are no spelling or grammatical errors.
Create your pawn shop website. Your website will be an e-commerce site where people can view items and add them to a virtual shopping cart to make purchase. Free or paid website templates are availabe online. You also may hire a website designer. A directory of designers is a available at the GetAFreelancer or Elance websites.
Produce images of items already in your possession you would like to pawn. Use a digital camera and use the same background for all images, if possible.
Attract customers. Besides using the typical social networking methods, advertise in forums your target market is likely to visit. Consider using advertising conduits such as Google AdWords.

How to Set Up an URL for a Web Page (5 Steps)

Purchase a domain name from a registrar. By purchasing a domain name, you will register it as your own and be able to control where the domain resides. There are many registrars available such as GoDaddy, Register.com, Enom, Network Solutions and Dream Host, to name a few. Many registrars also provide web hosting and vice versa. Domain names typically cost between $2.00 to $10.00. per year, as of 2010. '.com' is the most expensive; '.net,' .org,' and '.info' are progressively less expensive.
Open a shared hosting account with a web host. If your website becomes popular, you can upgrade to a VSP or dedicated server at any time. Depending on the registrar you purchase your domain from, you may be able to also host with them. Web hosts typically charge on per month basis and offer options for monthly and yearly payment options. Some of the web hosts available are GoDaddy, DreamHost, HostMonster and HostGator.
Redirect your domain's nameservers, also referred to as 'DNS,' to the IP address of your web host's nameservers. Your domain will have two nameservers, 'Nameserver 1' and 'Nameserver 2.' Your web host will provide you with an address for each nameserver. The addresses will look like, 'ns1.your-host.com' and 'ns2.your-host.com.' You will need to refer to your web host/registrar for the specific address and instructions on how to redirect your domain's nameservers.
Upload the files for your web pages. Log in to the cPanel on your hosting account and go to the 'File Manager.' Click on your domain name to be taken to the root folder for its directory. Upload the index.html file and other associated files for your website. You may also choose to use your host's script installer to install a website automatically for you, which will vary in procedure from host to host.
Wait at least 24 hours for the change to take effect. Once the redirection of the nameservers has completed, your domain name will now be the URL of your web page. For example, by typing 'http://your-domain-name.com' you will be taken to your web page.

How to Find the Login for FTP for GoDaddy

Check the email you received from GoDaddy when you created your Web hosting account. GoDaddy recommends that customers print out this confirmation email, because it contains important account information that customers often need to use as they manage a website. Either find the email within a folder of your email browser or find the printed copy of the email, because it contains your login name and password.
Visit the GoDaddy website and enter your Customer Number in the upper-left corner of the homepage. Click the 'My Account' tab and then click 'Web Hosting' from beneath the 'Products' section in the left sidebar. Select the domain you wish to view and find the 'Overview' tab. Within the 'Overview' tab, you will see a 'Login' box with your username.
Create a new password if you cannot remember your password and you do not have your confirmation email from GoDaddy. Visit the GoDaddy website and enter your Customer Number in the upper-left corner of the homepage. Click the 'My Account' tab and then click 'Web Hosting' from beneath the 'Products' section in the left sidebar. Click 'Launch' beside the correct hosting account. Within the 'FTP' section, find the 'Password' field and select 'Change.' Enter a new password twice into the appropriate fields and select 'Update.' GoDaddy warns that it may take as long as one hour for a new password to take effect.
Contact GoDaddy if you continue to experience technical problems. Dial (480) 505-8877 to speak with a support representative. Provide your customer PIN or the last four digits of the credit card you used to pay for your Web hosting. Providing either of these numbers identifies you to GoDaddy -- the customer service representative will not assist you without either of these numbers. Ask the support representative for your login information. The representative will email you the information to the email address associated with your Web hosting account.

How to Create a Pixel Website of Your Own

Obtain a creative domain name likely to attract a large number of visitors on a regular basis.
Purchase a reliable website hosting plan from a provider. Ensure that the host you choose is able to meet the future needs of your website. Research the bandwidth, memory and other services the host provides. Look for a host who provides at least 10GB of memory and 750GB of bandwidth; also ensure that they provide essential services like PHP and mySQL support. Inquire about hosting plans and choose the most adequate one for your needs.
Install a script that sets up a million-pixel sales system onto your website. You can also commission people who write code to write you a custom pixel script. Set up the script by creating a new SQL database, and upload all the files that were provided to you in the script to your Web server. Access the admin panel of the script and configure the script to your liking.
Consider your pricing strategy for pixel space as it compares to other pixel websites, and think of ways to make your pixel website more competitive when it comes to attracting potential advertisers. Design your own creative implementations of pixel space sales, and attempt to take them to potential advertisers.

How to Choose a Hosting Provider

Make a list of the hosting needs of your website before searching for a host. This includes technical requirements like server platform and hardware requirements, disk space needed, bandwidth requirements and other hosting features. Other features include compatibility with web authoring tools like Dreamweaver or FrontPage, support for video clips, and support for e-commerce activities.
Research the reputation of each potential hosting service provider. Check user reviews to find what customers have to say about their experiences with the hosting provider.
Evaluate reliability and scalability. The hosting provider should not only be reliable and fast, it should guarantee at least 99% uptime if not 99.5%. They should have a refund policy if they fail to provide the minimum speed guaranteed. Also, look for a service provider who is prepared for scalability. For example, if you want to increase your disk space, bandwidth or mySQL database, they should be able to do it without much problem.
Require excellent technical support and services. The provider should have competent technicians available all 7 days a week round the clock to help resolve your problems in a timely fashion. You can gauge their responsiveness by sending them some general inquiry mails and noting the response time. A response time of less than 24 hours is okay, but anything more than a day is considered poor service. A good hosting provider should provide support systems like toll free numbers, 24/7 email support, live chat, an online knowledgebase, and helpful FAQs.
Assess payment plan options. Determine if you will have to pay on a monthly, quarterly or yearly basis. Many hosting providers offer the option of monthly payment. In case you are not satisfied with their services, you can switch over to another provider after a month without having to worry about any refunds.
