How to Create a Social Website (6 Steps)

Install WordPress on your Web server. Due to its popularity, WordPress is now offered as a standard application available with many Web-hosting plans. Some Web-hosting services offer an automatic installation option for WordPress. If you don't have much experience installing Web applications, select a Web host that offers automatic WordPress installation and you'll save a lot of time.
Install the BuddyPress plug-in. You can automatically install BuddyPress from the WordPress dashboard by going to the 'Plug-ins' menu on the left side of the Dashboard and selecting 'Add New.' Enter 'BuddyPress' in the plug-in search box. In the result listings, you'll see BuddyPress. Install BuddyPress by selecting the 'Install Now' link under the BuddyPress name.
Configure BuddyPress. BuddyPress has features for activity streams, editable user profiles, friend connections, private messaging, blogging and groups. Because BuddyPress is a WordPress plug-in, it is extensible, which means that features can be added to run alongside BuddyPress in the WordPress system. The BuddyPress.org site runs on WordPress and BuddyPress, so you can visit their site to see it in use.
Generate content for your website. Using WordPress, you can add pages or posts with content for your visitors and members. WordPress allows you to add text, images and video content to your website.
Promote your social website. You can use search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising or other traditional advertising methods to generate awareness of your social website. If your website is dedicated to a specific interest group or organization, you may be able to promote the website within the interest group or organization membership.
Manage the users. Because social websites permit a certain degree of user-generated content, you may want to review some or all of the new contributions to the site to make sure that no illegal or objectionable content is being added. Also, if you allow comments on your pages or posts, you'll want to install a comment spam blocker such as the 'akismet' plug-in. In general, you'll need to keep an eye on users and the content they are adding to make sure that your social website doesn't get hijacked by spammers.

How to Add a CNAME (6 Steps)

Log into your account at the website of the company where you purchased your domain name. If you have a Web hosting account with another company, and you transferred DNS management to the new company's name servers, log into the Web hosting site instead. If you're not sure which company controls your DNS settings, first try the Web hosting company and then the domain registrar.
Find the website's DNS management page. Depending on which company you use, the location of this page on the website will vary. You can often find it by selecting 'DNS Management,' 'DNS Settings,' 'DNS Hosts,' 'Zone Editor' or something similar. On some sites, you may have to first select the 'Domains' option and then select the name of your domain.
Find the section of the DNS settings page that allows you to add a new record. In some cases, you may need to click 'Add Record,' 'Edit' or something similar. The website will ask you for up to four pieces of information: a record type, a host name or alias, a value or destination, and a time delay or 'TTL.'
Set the record type to 'CNAME,' and then enter the new domain prefix in the host name or alias field. For example, if you are creating the 'pictures.mywebsite.com' subdomain, enter 'pictures' in this field. Do not add a period at the end of your entry -- you DNS editor will do this automatically.
Set the value or destination field to the location or address to which the new subdomain should point. For example, if you are creating a subdomain called 'pictures.mywebsite.com' that should point to an image folder on your Web server, you might enter 'mywebsite.com/data/images' as the value or destination. You can also point subdomains to other websites. For example, if you have Tumblr blog and want readers to be able to access it from your own website, you might create the subdomain 'blog.mywebsite.com'. In this case, you would enter 'domains.tumblr.com.' (including the last period inside the quotes) as the value or destination.
Leave the TTL setting at the default value and then save the new entry. The CNAME record should become active within four hours, although it can sometimes take up to eight hours for the new information to propagate to all of the other DNS servers on the Internet.

How to Find Email Domains

Select a domain name registrar. You may choose one of the registrars offered in the resource section of this article, or pick one on your own. Every domain name registrar has access to the same information. No domain name registrar is better than any other when it comes to finding out if a domain name is available for a custom email. The difference lies in the fees each registrar charges for registering a domain name through their services, as well as any additional services offered by the company (such as web or email hosting services). Selecting a domain name registrar that also offers email hosting services will make setting up a custom email address easier.
Type the domain you would like to use for your custom email address in the field box designated for domain name lookup on the registrar's website. Remember that the format of a domain name is as follows: a name, followed by a dot (or period), followed by the server type (such as 'com,' 'net,' or 'org'), such as 'example.com' or 'example.net'.
Submit your request to check the availability of this domain name by clicking the button for 'Search, 'Go,' 'Find It,' or whatever button the registrar's website has designated for submitting a domain name lookup request. The search will take a few seconds. If the domain you've selected is not available (because it's currently registered to someone else) the registrar may provide you with a list of alternative, available domain names that are similar to your first choice. If the domain you've selected is available, the registrar will give you the opportunity to register it through their services for a small fee (generally no more than $10 per year, but this fee varies among registrars).
Use the services of a domain name registrar to register the available domain name you want to use for your email address.
Sign up with an email hosting service. If you selected a domain name registrar with email hosting services, you can register the domain name and sign up for email hosting services all in one place. If you selected a domain name registrar that does not offer email hosting services, you will have to shop around for an email host.

How to Find Your Port Number on GoDaddy (3 Steps)

Access your email server port settings. The instructions for reaching the port settings vary on all email clients, but you can usually do so either when you first set up the email or by selecting the email account properties.
Look to see if you have enabled 'This sever requires a secure connection.' If you did not, type '143' into the incoming port if you're using an IMAP-enabled email. Type '110' if you're using a POP-enabled email. You can look to see whether you're using POP or IMAP in the main email settings. If you do have a secure connection enabled, set the IMAP settings to 993 and the POP settings to 995.
Set the 'Outgoing Mail' port to '80,' '25,' '3535' or '787' if you do not have a secure connection enabled. Depending on your location and connection, some ports may not work. If you do have a secure connection enabled, set the port to '465.' Click 'Apply' and 'OK.'
