How to Set up a Free Classified Site (9 Steps)

Come up with a plan for your classified website. Figure out what type of classified ad site you want to set up. Go online and do your research of various online classified scripts before you make your purchase. Look in Resources for recommendations.
Register your domain name (see Resources). The domain name registrar will give you access to your domain's control panel.
Purchase a hosting package. Make sure your Web hosting package meets all the requirements of your script for it to install and work properly. If you are not sure, contact tech support. Setting up the hosting will give you access to your FTP server and your DNS server entries.
Purchase a classified script. Download and unpack the script on your computer, following the manufacturer's instructions.
Log into your domain's control panel and change its DNS settings to point to your Web host's server.
Log into your Web host's CPanel and look for the MySQL icon. Open it to create a database for your classified script. If you are not sure about how to do this, contact the script's tech support team for help.
Download an FTP program. An FTP program transfers files between your computer and your Web host.
Log into your Web host's server using your FTP program and its authentication settings. Now upload the script files to your Web host's server.
Open your Web browser, type your Web address in the Search box and click 'Search.' You should see your new classified website.

How to Upload Information to the Web

Obtain Web hosting space with FTP (file transfer protocol) so that you’ll have somewhere to upload the information. This can be done by purchasing a domain name and Web hosting, or by finding a company that offers free Web space. If you choose to purchase hosting, you won’t be able to access it without buying a domain name.
Log in to your FTP account. If you are using a free or paid host, then log in to the control panel and access the FTP section. This may be also be labeled as 'Upload Files' if you are using free hosting. If you have paid hosting and an FTP program on your computer, you can use that instead. You’ll have to use your FTP username and password in order to use an external program. Your host will give you this information after you sign up.
Find the information you want to upload on your computer. Once logged into FTP either via the Web panel or via an FTP program on your computer, you should be looking at a split screen. One side represents the files and folders on your computer, while the other side represents the files and folders that are part of your Web hosting account. Select the files you want to upload by browsing through the files and folders on your computer. Next click 'Transfer.” You have now uploaded the information to the Web.
View the information. Now that you have uploaded the files, it’s a good idea to make sure the upload is working properly. Open the Web browser and type in the URL of the files you uploaded. For example, if you uploaded stocks.pdf to yourdomain.com, you would type www.yourdomain.com/stocks.pdf. If you are using a free host then you have to type in the domain and folder name of whatever service you are using. For example, www.freehostingexample.com/yourusername/stocks.pdf

How to Use Bluehost (6 Steps)

Visit Bluehost's website. (There's a direct link in the Resources section.) Click the 'Sign up now' button to start the registration process.
Enter all of your information, including your credit card number. The first month's fee will be charged immediately, and each month thereafter, a charge in the same amount will be billed to your credit card.
Go to the cPanel (control panel) to familiarize yourself with the Bluehost back office. Here, you'll find links that will help you control your site, such as click-to-add Wordpress and Joomla. You'll also find links to help you create your email accounts and change passwords for your cPanel login as well as all of your email passwords.
On the left-hand margin of the cPanel, you will find the current amount of storage you are using. Because Bluehost is an unlimited hosting plan, this is basically just a 'for your information' section, and you don't need to concern yourself with how much storage you are using.
Go to the site for which you purchased your domain name(s). Change your name servers for all of your domain names. The name servers you'll use are NS1.BLUEHOST.COM - 74.220.195.31 and NS2.BLUEHOST.COM - 69.89.16.4.
Go back the Bluehost cPanel to add all of your existing domains to the Bluehost hosting plan. To do this, scroll down to the 'Add on' icon and click on it. Add the name of your domains, one at a time.
Use the FTP application of your choice (popular ones are Filezilla and Cute FTP) to upload your website files to your Bluehost hosting.

How to Change Your Domain Hosting

Research alternative Web hosting companies to find a service offering the features you need for your website at the best price.
Open an account with a new Web hosting company.
Log into your account with your current Web host.
Download all of your files from the host's server using the backup tool offered in the Web host's control panel or an FTP client application. Be sure to download all of your files. This includes any HTML files, picture files, audio files, flash files, INC files, CSS files, and so forth.
Back up your blog and Web forum database (if applicable) using a MySQL administration tool such as phpMyAdmin.
Log into your account with your new Web hosting company.
Obtain the DNS server information for the new Web hosting company. You will need this information later to update your DNS records to point to this new Web host server.
Upload all of the files for your website (downloaded in Step 4) to the new host's server.
Install the backup copy of your blog and forum database (created in Step 5) to the new host's server using their MySQL administration tool.
Log into your account with your original Web hosting company. Navigate to the Domain Name manager tool offered in the host's control panel. Edit your DNS records to reflect the server name associated with your new Web host. Submit the update. It can take up to 24 hours for the DNS records update to take effect globally. During this time your website will go off-line.
Visit your website. Check everything out to make sure all your Web pages have migrated successfully, the design elements of the site are still in tact, the website forum and blog are functioning properly, and so forth. Only after you're certain everything with your website is as it's supposed to be should you move on to the next step because you have mistakenly neglected to backup a stray file or two.
Cancel your account with your Web hosting company.

How to Start an eLearning Website Receive the Payments

Set up a Web hosting presence. The important factor with hosting an eLearning site is to find a web host that can host third-party software packages. As of August 2010, reputable web hosting of this variety is available for as little as $4 per month.
Select a content management system to run the eLearning site. There are many options available. Research the different choices while also considering how you will use the CMS package on the eLearning website before making a choice. You may also ask the Web host for recommendations based on the setup of the Web server.
Install and configure the content management system. On most Web hosts, this is as simple as opening the server's control panel, locating the name of CMS package and choosing to do a new install. A wizard-type interface will guide you through each step of the installation, including initial configuration options.
Create a payment-processing account. The CMS will use a payment-processing company to send customer payment data for processing. This allows website users to pay by credit card and other methods. Many small businesses choose to use Google or PayPal, but there are also many other alternatives available.
Develop the content. An eLearning site differs from other content-rich sites because of the educational nature of the content. The content of an eLearning site must be in a format that facilitates learning. Often, large eLearning companies use content-development specialists to create material tailored for online delivery. Inexperienced website developers may benefit by hiring a freelance content-development specialist to assist with this step.
Deploy the content onto the CMS. After the educational material is developed, it needs to be loaded onto the CMS into the secure area of the site. That will allow the CMS to both manage the content delivery and prevent unauthorized users from accessing the content.
Test the site prior to launch. All facets of the site, from payment processing to content accessibility, need thorough testing before the site is opened to the public. The site will be ready for launch when testing is completed.

How to Set Up a Mirror WordPress Site

Decide where to host your mirror site. If you only need local access to your site, you can host the installation locally on your personal computer. Using a local host allows instant changes without an Internet connection. Remote hosting, through a web server, gives you access from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. It is best to test user functionality before moving a change to your production site.
Set your mirror URL. Log into your domain name control panel and add a sub-domain for your mirror site. If you are using a local host, install a program like WAMP and set up a directory localhost that you can access through your web browser. If you are using a remote host, choose a domain like mirror.yoursite.com or test.yoursite.com to use for hosting.
Install WordPress into the mirror directory. If you are skilled at editing databases and php files, you can copy the database and WordPress directory directly to the new host. If not, use the WordPress installation wizard or your hosting WordPress installation tool to setup a new WordPress site hosted at your new URL.
Copy your production WordPress site to the new installation. WordPress has a user friendly export/import function that will automate the data transfer. In the WordPress administration panel, you can find the export and import functions under the 'Tools' menu.
Copy your template and set your file permissions. Using an FTP client, copy your theme files and set your file permissions on the mirror site to match your production site. Also, make sure you have a .htaccess file that is writable by WordPress with 775 file permission so your new site will function properly.

How to Connect a CMS to a Website
