How to Ping a Domain Name

Click the 'Start' button and search for 'Command Prompt' in the search bar. Alternatively, click on 'My Programs' and navigate to 'Accessories.' The 'Command Prompt' application is second on the list.
Right-click on 'Command Prompt' and select 'Run as Administrator.' A dialog box will open asking you to confirm your action. Click 'Yes.'
Type 'ping' (without quotes) followed by the domain you wish to ping. For example, to ping eHow.com, you would type 'ping ehow.com' (without quotes). Press 'Enter' to input the command.
Customize the ping command for extra functionality. Ping a domain indefinitely by appending '-t' to create 'ping -t ehow.com.' Add '-n' followed by a number to set a specific number of pings. To ping eHow 10 times, you would type, 'ping -n 10 ehow.com.'

How to Create an Under Construction Page (6 Steps)

Get your domain name. The first step is to purchase your domain name. This is the web address that visitors will use to get to your website. You can purchase domain names online from websites like Go Daddy and BuyDomains (see Resources below).
See if the domain server will set up the page. Sometimes your domain server will set up an 'Under Construction' page for you. When you're looking for a domain server, ask whether this is part of the contract.
Create your own 'Under Construction' page if your domain server doesn't provide one. Use a simple program like Page Maker, or follow these steps:
• Open a text editing application like Notepad or EditPad.
• Type '
'. (Include only the keystrokes in between the quotation marks here and below). This will tell the browser that you're creating an HTML document.
• Add '
' to indicate that the document's information is starting.
• Add a title by typing '
Under Construction
' followed by '
'.
• Start the body of the webpage by typing '
Site Under Construction
'. The viewer will see this text; so add all pertinent information.
• Close the webpage by typing
and save as trial.html.
• Open your browser and click on 'Open' from the 'File' menu. Locate the file and click 'Open' to view your 'Under Construction' page.
Add basic text and information. To make sure your 'Under Construction' page is useful, include not only a statement that the site is under construction but also information like the site's name. If you know when the expected completion date is going to be, include that as well.
Insert a graphic. Within your page-making program, insert graphics that show the site under construction. Most sites use a graphic that resembles a road construction sign.
Post the 'Under Construction' page. When the page is finalized, post it at your domain name. When someone visits your Web address, they will now know they should keep checking back.

How to Uninstall Drupal

Open an FTP connection with your Web server. Almost all Web hosts offer this type of file directory access through a FTP browsing application. This application will allow you to connect to your website's files with a user-created password and sub-domain connection path, such as 'ftp.yourwebsite.com,' for example.
Find the folder in your website directory where you created the Drupal installation.
Delete this entire folder by selecting it in the file browser and choosing 'Delete' from within your FTP application. This will remove all of the Drupal administration functions and all of the files associated with your Drupal-based website.
Open your Web browser and navigate to your website hosting control panel. This is usually found through your Web hosting provider's user area.
Find your database control area, and open it to get access to all of your databases.
Remove the database you created for Drupal when you first installed it. Drupal should be fully removed from your website.

How to Organize a Craft Show for Fundraising (6 Steps)

Scout out a location and decide on a time. Research churches, community centers and schools. If you are expecting a large turnout, consider renting out a local fairground. The location should be able to hold all the vendors and buyers comfortably without overcrowding. Make sure there is also ample parking. Keep in mind that you might be more successful if you plan your show before a major gift-giving holiday.
Create a vendor application. Ask the vendors to note what items they will be selling. List the fees and how much space the vendors will be able to use. Consider allowing people to sell food to increase the amount of money you will raise. Allow community organizations to attend to let people know about other various events in your area.
Decide on a theme for your fair. If you are planning a more upscale atmosphere, allow only fine arts, such as tasteful photography and paintings. You can also choose a homemade craft fair where vendors must sell original creations such as soap, pottery or candles.
Start talking about your craft fair. Word of mouth spreads, so place an ad in your local newspaper. Provide contact information where vendors can get in touch with you. Approach local craft stores and invite them to participate. Make sure you mention the date and time of the fair, as well as the application and fees.
Advertise. Print and distribute fliers to post in libraries, coffee shops or other stores. If you are educated about website design, create a site with information and directions. Your local television station may also list activities on its site.
Send a letter to the vendors. Confirm the date and time. Instruct vendors where to go when they arrive and remind them of the size of their stand. On the day of the fair, enlist the help of a friend or family member to help direct the vendors and assist them in setting up.

How to Change Your Domain Hosting

Research alternative Web hosting companies to find a service offering the features you need for your website at the best price.
Open an account with a new Web hosting company.
Log into your account with your current Web host.
Download all of your files from the host's server using the backup tool offered in the Web host's control panel or an FTP client application. Be sure to download all of your files. This includes any HTML files, picture files, audio files, flash files, INC files, CSS files, and so forth.
Back up your blog and Web forum database (if applicable) using a MySQL administration tool such as phpMyAdmin.
Log into your account with your new Web hosting company.
Obtain the DNS server information for the new Web hosting company. You will need this information later to update your DNS records to point to this new Web host server.
Upload all of the files for your website (downloaded in Step 4) to the new host's server.
Install the backup copy of your blog and forum database (created in Step 5) to the new host's server using their MySQL administration tool.
Log into your account with your original Web hosting company. Navigate to the Domain Name manager tool offered in the host's control panel. Edit your DNS records to reflect the server name associated with your new Web host. Submit the update. It can take up to 24 hours for the DNS records update to take effect globally. During this time your website will go off-line.
Visit your website. Check everything out to make sure all your Web pages have migrated successfully, the design elements of the site are still in tact, the website forum and blog are functioning properly, and so forth. Only after you're certain everything with your website is as it's supposed to be should you move on to the next step because you have mistakenly neglected to backup a stray file or two.
Cancel your account with your Web hosting company.

How to Connect a CMS to a Website

Determine where the CMS will be connected on your website. If you have an existing website with content, you may want to connect the CMS to a URL other than the homepage of your website. On the other hand, if your website is new, you may want the CMS connected to the homepage.
Log in to your website hosting service. Activate the hosting control panel and navigate to the application installation section of the control panel.
Install a CMS. From the application installation section, select the CMS you'd like to install. Follow your website hosting service's instructions for installing and configuring the CMS. The website hosting service will likely create a database for your CMS to use and then install the CMS software. Write down any login or administrator information for the database and CMS that you enter during the installation process.
Add a test page or post. Access the administrator login page for your CMS. Add and publish a test page or post according to the instructions for your CMS. If you can't access the administrator page, you may need to reinstall the CMS.
Verify the CMS operation. Log out of the CMS administrator section. Visit your website as a visitor would and navigate to the location where the CMS is connected. Make sure your test page or post appears correctly and that the CMS is working. Make any necessary changes.
