How to Set Up an URL for a Web Page (5 Steps)

Purchase a domain name from a registrar. By purchasing a domain name, you will register it as your own and be able to control where the domain resides. There are many registrars available such as GoDaddy, Register.com, Enom, Network Solutions and Dream Host, to name a few. Many registrars also provide web hosting and vice versa. Domain names typically cost between $2.00 to $10.00. per year, as of 2010. '.com' is the most expensive; '.net,' .org,' and '.info' are progressively less expensive.
Open a shared hosting account with a web host. If your website becomes popular, you can upgrade to a VSP or dedicated server at any time. Depending on the registrar you purchase your domain from, you may be able to also host with them. Web hosts typically charge on per month basis and offer options for monthly and yearly payment options. Some of the web hosts available are GoDaddy, DreamHost, HostMonster and HostGator.
Redirect your domain's nameservers, also referred to as 'DNS,' to the IP address of your web host's nameservers. Your domain will have two nameservers, 'Nameserver 1' and 'Nameserver 2.' Your web host will provide you with an address for each nameserver. The addresses will look like, 'ns1.your-host.com' and 'ns2.your-host.com.' You will need to refer to your web host/registrar for the specific address and instructions on how to redirect your domain's nameservers.
Upload the files for your web pages. Log in to the cPanel on your hosting account and go to the 'File Manager.' Click on your domain name to be taken to the root folder for its directory. Upload the index.html file and other associated files for your website. You may also choose to use your host's script installer to install a website automatically for you, which will vary in procedure from host to host.
Wait at least 24 hours for the change to take effect. Once the redirection of the nameservers has completed, your domain name will now be the URL of your web page. For example, by typing 'http://your-domain-name.com' you will be taken to your web page.

How to upload a theme to Wordpress

How to change Wordpress theme, if you have a free account at Wordpress.com you just have to login to your Wordpress blog and select Appearance and then click on the Themes link. This will bring up the standard Worpdress themes available. Click on the theme you like and select Activate. Then this will become your new Wordpress theme.
If you have your own domain name and host then you will need to go to your ftp client or login to an ftp client like the one that Godaddy provides and upload a new theme. Download a theme first and once you've done that save it to a folder you can easily find. Then once inside the ftp client upload the new theme folder to:
yourblogname.com/wp-content/themes
Then login to your blog admin area youblogname.com/wp-admin and then click on Appearance and then Themes. Just as Wordpress.com you will see a preview of the theme once you click on it. You must click 'Activate the theme name' to make that your new Wordpress theme. To setup a new Wordpress blog application on Godaddy check out my other how to called how to start a Wordpress blog.

How to Remove a Sponsored Link From a Home Page

Pay for a better site. The first thing you have to consider is paying or paying more for your site. Most hosts that offer free or low-cost website hosting offer an upgrade for a very small amount. The upgrade will remove the sponsors from your own page. You may still be using a sub-domain or you may have your own--it depends on the host. with a little more money you can upgrade to a site with no sponsored links. Hosting can be as cheap as $3 a month. If you want to make up that cost you can use Google AdWords to help pay for the costs. This is basically another form of sponsored link, but you're more in control.
Sign up for free hosting with no advertisements. There are companies that offer free hosting with no advertisements or sponsored links, such as the site X10hosting. The host will require something from you, such as participating in forums, to help make up the cost. There will also likely be limits on your website that offer less flexibility than you would get with paid hosting.
Use Blogger. Blogger.com is a free service that lets anyone write a blog for free with no advertisements. There are other websites that allow free blogs, but Blogger is the most well known and will give you a URL that looks like this: (yourname).blogspot.com. Different sites have different formats and options. This can be the best way to establish an Internet presence with no sponsored ads or links.
Call customer support. If you really want to keep the website you have on your current host, try calling or emailing customer support and asking them what you can do to remove sponsored links or ads.

How to be a good host for houseguests

Know when your guests are coming and how long they will stay. Clear your calendar to make sure you can spend plenty of time with them. Ideally, try to have someone in your home who can accompany them at all times. If this is not possible, try to have a car available for them in case they want to explore the area on their own or run an errand.
Stock up: A good host has well-fed guests. Find out what your guests can and cannot eat and which foods they enjoy the most. For breakfast, standard fare usually suffices: eggs, coffee, toast and so forth. For lunch, sandwiches are generally fine. Save your guest's favorite dishes for dinner. Party food (tacos, pizza, etc.) can make for a great and simple dinner.
Clean up: Having guests is a great reason to straighten up the house. This is the time to recycle the pile of mail and magazines on the kitchen table, scrub the tub, mop the floors and vacuum the rugs.
Mind the animals: Make sure you know whether your guests have pet allergies. If so, find out how strong they are and plan accordingly. With mild allergies, it will do to vacuum thoroughly and keep the animal away from the guest. But if your guest has a strong pet allergy, it may be necessary to confine the animal or have it stay somewhere else for the time being.

How to See Who Viewed My Craigslist Ad (5 Steps)

Prepare the images you plan to use in your listing. You don’t need to do anything special with them; just edit them as you normally would.
Contact your Web hosting service and tell them you want to track unique views of a specific image file; they'll explain how you can do this. You may also be able to find the information in their site FAQ or customer support literature. Just look for their Web analytics support documentation.
Upload the image as advised by your Web host’s customer support. You only need to do this with one image. Tracking statistics on multiple images can cause you to accidentally multiply the number of visitors who view your listing. If you do use multiple images, store the others elsewhere on your Web pages or host them directly on Craigslist.
Link to the image when you post your Craigslist ad, using the HTML image tag: . Replace 'URL' with the actual URL of your image, including the 'http://" at the beginning and keeping the quotation marks.
Track the unique downloads for the image in your listing. This number roughly corresponds to the actual number of individual visitors.

How to Make a Song Into an MP3 Link (4 Steps)

Locate the MP3 song file on your computer. You may have a folder titled 'My Music' in your 'My Documents' folder, for example, that contains your MP3s. Find the MP3 file and remember the name of that file for easy uploading later on.
Visit one of the many MP3 hosting sites. Check www.audiohostings.com for a list of different mp3 hosting sites. Some, such Kiwi6, host only mp3s. Others, though, can host MP4s, WAV or other types of music files. Look through the sites to find the one that you trust the most. Kiwi6 and Filexoom are easy to understand and work well.
Once you've found the MP3 hosting site you'd like to use, locate the 'Upload Now' or 'Browse' button on the website. Find the MP3 file on your computer to upload to the MP3 hosting website. Click 'Upload' and wait for the file to upload onto the computer. You should see a progress bar to watch the upload in progress on most hosting sites.
Get the link provided by the hosting site that will go directly to the song download page or a link that will automatically download the song. This link should be provided immediately upon upload completion on the hosting site. You are now free to post that link in message boards or on a personal website to share with others. Remember to follow any copyright guidelines the song may have attached to it.

How to Make a Online Inventory System

Make sure you have a domain name set up for your business. Your domain name is the address that people will type into their browser to reach your inventory system. (Yourinventorysystem.com) domain registrars can charge between $1 and $14 per year.
Obtain web hosting for your online inventory system. Online web hosts are responsible for providing the memory and web-space for the content and traffic for your website. Web host can charge anywhere from three dollars and up per month. If you already have a website for your business, then you already have web hosting.
Determine if you like to use inventory software that has already been created or if you need to hire a programmer to integrate your inventory system into your website. Use sites like Getafreelancer.com and Elance.com to locate freelance computer programmers to make a custom inventory system for your site. Based on your budget, programmers from around the world will be on your project.
Purchase online inventory software to integrate with your website. For example visual inventory is a software that does not require you to create a website as it will automatically integrate to your web or network server. You will be able to input the type of products you have and customize the software to maintain inventory for either multiple owners, departments, locations, etc. Pricing for various inventory software can be free or you can pay over $5000. Purchasing inventory software is an alternative to hiring a computer programmer.
Make sure you and other colleagues test out the inventory system before going live. Test out the software for glitches and other issues that may need to troubleshoot. You may need to conduct a training session who will be accessing your inventory system to ensure they know what they are doing.

How to Get a URL Address

Decide what you want your domain name to be. It's a good idea to have a few banes in mind in case your first choice is taken, especially if you want a .com or .net address. (For example, while a name may be taken on a .com, the .net version of that domain may be available.)
Choose a domain registrar to register and purchase your domain--such as Go Daddy, Network Solutions or Bluehost. Many hosts are similar, but you'll want to make sure you're getting what you want. Consider looking at reviews (a link to a site with popular reviews can be found below), then checking each host that catches your eye personally. Make sure you're using an ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers)-accredited registrar, that the company has good technical support and its their website is easy to use. Review usage and support policies to see exactly what you're getting.
Sign up for an account with the domain registrar of your choice, then begin the process of signing up for a domain. On many sites, you can begin this process by using the company's search function to check for the availability of a domain. Otherwise there is usually a 'buy now' option somewhere on the main page for you to use.
Type in and select the domain of your choice if it is available. The process will differ depending on what host you choose, but when you are finished and have paid for the domain, you will be able to use it immediately. Be careful when paying for your domain, as the host may attempt to select certain payment options or add products to your order by default. Double-check your cart before you complete your payment.

How to Create Maintain a Website for Free

Find a free hosting company. When choosing a free hosting company, you should consider the storage allowance, the server software (Cpanel is the most popular) and additional features like Fantastico, which allows you to easily install a range of applications. Some free hosts worth considering are 000webhost ($0.00 web host), and Black Apple Host. Both sites use the free service as an inducement to get users to upgrade to premium services.
Register a free .tk domain. Tokelau is a territory of New Zealand in the Pacific that allows anyone to register a .tk URL for free. Obtain your (DNS) Domain Nameserver settings from your hosting account and configure the URL to point to the server.
Choose a CMS and install it on your hosting account. There are a handful of open-source CMS packages, with Joomla and Drupal being among the most popular. Wordpress and Moveable Type are simple to set up, but aren't really suitable for doing anything beyond blogging.

How to Buy Space on a Server

Learn what you should expect to pay. Different websites have different needs. High-volume sites such as Facebook require tens of millions of dollars each year to function, and a successful e-commerce site might pay $5,000 annually. In contrast, the server needs of a typical website are so relatively small that $100 or less per year is reasonable and common. To discover more about reasonable server costs for your website in particular, call or email business owners operating in an industry or market similar to yours and ask how much they pay.
Determine necessary features. Even the most basic web hosting packages offer a large collection of features, but not all may provide the features specifically required by your website. Do you need a Linux or Windows operating system? What about core functions, such as the ability to host domains and sub-domains, email and FTP accounts, and relational databases? In terms of programming needs, do you require CGI, PHP, Perl, Ruby on Rails, Python or JSP? How about the ability to simply create guestbooks, forums, chatrooms, password-protected directories or email forms? If you expect to sell products online, shopping cart software and secure server technology must also be considered. Create a spreadsheet and list all of the features that your web server must provide.
Read customer reviews. Setting up space on a web server is quick and simple, but changing to another is time-consuming and often difficult. Avoid this possibility by reading reviews provided by current and former customers on sites such as webhostingreviews.com. These sites provide real-world insight into a hosting provider's up-time and reliability, server and connection speed, technical support and knowledge, customer service, billing practices, and their overall ability to deliver value.
Buy server space. Purchasing your web server space is the easiest part of the process. Visit your selected provider's website, find the plan you wish to buy and begin your order. After providing the name of your website, you will be asked to provide your contact information and payment details. In most cases you can also select your payment term: monthly, yearly, or multi-yearly (Many hosting providers offer discounts for services paid in advance). After submitting payment, you will receive a confirmation email from your provider. Your server space will generally be available for use within an hour after purchase.

How to Create a Turnkey Web Site

Choose a market niche for your turnkey site. Websites that focus on niches are popular and can generate a significant revenue have the greatest chance of being sold. Think of industries that have a large advertising network. For example, a website on dog care serves a large audience and also has a wide range of companies who would want to advertise dog care products. In contrast, a site about raising ants will have a much narrower audience and less appeal to advertisers and entrepreneurs.
Sign up for budget web hosting. When attempting to create a turnkey website, minimizing your overhead costs will help you realize the greatest profit when selling the site. You also want a host that is able to transfer ownership of the domain and hosting account for free. Examples of budget webhosts that can do this include Fat Cow and Blue Host (see Resources).
Build the turnkey site. If building the site from a blank page, use a visual site editor (e.g. Dreamweaver) or a standard text editor if you are comfortable with your level of HTML expertise. Alternatively, purchase a professional website template. Templates are popular among those who create turnkey websites because they minimize the time it takes to get the site up and running. Avoid free website template sites as they often offer low-quality templates that are not always standards-compliant. Dreamtemplate is an example of a professional template provider (see Resources).
Propagate your site with keyword-targeted, original content. Include a minimum of five to 10 pages for the site. Think about the keywords that will attract advertisers. Stay focused on your turnkey website's overall theme. For example, a dog care site may have web pages on dog breeds; dog grooming tips; dog grooming product reviews; and dog feeding and nutrition guides. The more pages you include with the turnkey site, the higher your chance of selling the site quickly.
Insert advertising and affiliate programs. Popular examples include Google AdSense, Commission Junction and Amazon Associates. You may insert your own code, which the purchaser will then replace with his or her own affiliate codes. Alternatively, simply insert 'Ad Here' or similar text to notify the purchaser of the locations of ad spots. However, successful turnkey websites will come with affiliate codes pre-installed and income reports to show potential buyers of the site's income potential.
Upload the website to the web host you chose in Step 2 using your FTP software. Enter your server name and password into the FTP software to connect with the server. If you do not know this information, it may be found in the registration material sent to you by the host when you originally registered. Once connected, upload the templates and pages you've created. Your turnkey site is now online.
List the turnkey site you've created for sale. You may wish to post it for free on an online classified ads website such as Craigslist. Alternatively, list the site for sale on an online marketplace specializing in turnkey website sales. One of the most popular and well-known sites that do this is the Sitepoint Marketplace (see Resources).

Find a web hosting service that meets your needs for a clothing site. Compare host sites at Webhostingsitechoice.com. Consider the service's cost, features and storage space. Since you will need several pages to showcase the clothes, make sure the web host offers unlimited disk and data space.

Click the button provided by the web host that allows you to add text, such as 'Add Paragraph.' Enter the text describing the clothing in this box. To add pictures of the clothes, click 'Add Photograph' and upload the photos. All web hosting sites provide a button to add or remove information in the same general manner.
